Niger
Thousands of people marched in Niger’s capital on Saturday to protest against Boko Haram, which has launched deadly raids into the country from Nigeria.
The protesters drawn from various parts of the west African country expressed their support to the national army that is fighting the militants.
“This is to tell all people especially from Diffa, the security forces and the civil servants that we are together and we will continue to support them,” said Tahar Sabra, one of the protesters.
They also called for support from other nations in fighting terror in the region that has affected thousands of lives.
“I call on the international community to help Niger, to make it safe, because today in Diffa, certainly it is a security problem. This problem of security has created another problem of displacement,” added Tahar.
According to UN, more than 240,000 people have been displaced in Diffa region in Niger. A total of 450,000 people in the region – nearly 70 percent of the population – face hunger according to World Food Program.
